This meeting is designed for screenwriters who...
...are sick of banging their heads against the wall trying to “just write every day” or get ~chosen~ by the Hollywood machine, and are ready to propel their career forward from a place of ease (and FUN, god forbid).
I take writers from…
- “I just want to be paid to write” to a clear, unique, inspiring vision to guide all their strategy and decision making
- “I don’t have enough time to write” to realistic, manageable blocks of time on your calendar and clear writing tasks to do in them
- Procrastination and distraction to a sustainable, enjoyable, productive writing practice
- “This is never going to happen for me” to a clear path forward
- “I can't get my foot in the door” to a FUN, INSPIRING networking practice to get your scripts into the hands of people who will get you actual American dollars in exchange for your creative work
You have a creative vision and a story to tell.
But the path from person-with-a-vision to “fulfilling creative career” can be, frankly, a nightmare.
I don't know if you're dragging yourself home every day from a soul-sucking day job with no energy left over to write...
Or maybe every industry contact you have, networking event you drag yourself to, or screenwriting contest you enter is starting to feel like a brick wall...
Or maybe your kids/pet/parent/partner/health is demanding so much from you that you have no time to write or network...
Or maybe whenever it's time to get some writing done, you instead answer the siren call of Love Island/TikTok scrolling/reorganizing your closet (whatever is your drug of choice)
But I do know that there is absolutely nothing wrong with you, and we can fix all of this.
Are you ready to reliably get your ideas from brain to page from a place of joy and inspiration, not shame and punishment?
Are you ready to sleep the sweet slumber of a person who knows they are attending to the needs of their creative practice and career ambitions?
Are you ready to actually enjoy the process of going from person-with-a-vision to professional, money-making creative?

I came to my block buster session feeling as lost as I've ever felt about my career and creativity. I had a vague, existential soup of things I thought might be making me feel badly, but no real answer on what was actually wrong, and definitely no ideas on how to move past whatever it was. Julia heard all of my concerns with empathy and patience. She helped me identify clear headlines, and together we figured out practical, approachable ways I could get back to my writing, strengthen my network, and realign my daily practice with my long-term career goals. She even found and broke through blocks I didn't know I had! All while making me laugh and putting me at ease in my role as a new mom. I feel better than I have in years. Thank you x10000 Julia!!

"How do I make it in Hollywood?"
There are only 2 things you must do to progress your screenwriting career:
Write a great script, and get people to read it.
That’s it! It's that easy, and that hard.
Every person peddling screenwriting career advice is telling you their way of doing one of those two things. ~The Julia difference~ is that I help you find your own aligned, enjoyable way to do both of those things, AND help you make peace with the fact that there is nothing else you have control over on this journey.
If you don’t believe the old adage from the 90s that “if you threw a great screenplay out of your window driving down the 405, someone would find it,” (I think this is true spiritually, but not literally 🤣) please check out this current story about an unknown, unrepped, inexperienced writer selling his spec screenplay for over $1M.
Or the slightly less current story of the assistant who wrote a spec pilot, gave it to her boss to read, and ended up selling it for 5 times her assistant salary in a bidding war, attaching two major TV stars to star in it, signing with a big agency, getting fancy managers and starting her career (<— me)
You don't know how close you are to the career of your dreams. So it's time to get your great script written and read.
How it works
We meet on Zoom (or in person in West Hollywood or DTLA if you prefer!).
I listen to exactly what you have going on in your life that is preventing you from either 1) writing a great script or 2) getting people to read it.
I ask you lots of questions based on what you’re telling me. You answer the questions.
Then together we fix it… all of it.
The session isn’t over until we’ve found a solution to every challenge you have (or you’ve realized that it isn’t actually a challenge you want to spend time/energy solving :-).
If we have to break and regroup another day, that’s all considered part of the same Block-Buster Session (i.e. no time limits, no additional cost).
What exactly is covered in a given session obviously varies according to each client’s challenges. You can check out my intake survey here to see the scope of what we’ll work on. (Most of my clients put straight 8s-10s on their post-meeting survey.)
Typical things I cover in sessions with clients are:
- Arranging the rest of their life to accommodate more time for writing
- Making detailed plans for finishing a writing project
- Deciding which writing projects to spend their time on
- Clarifying their vision for their career and honing how they share it with others
- Getting clarity about their personal values and using that knowledge to make changes to their life that enable them to… you guessed it, write a great script and get people to read it.
- Strategizing around day jobs
- Strategizing around who to share their script with and how
- We typically write and send at least one nerve-wracking email or text to some industry contact they already have 😉
This is for you if...
- You’re passionate about TV and film and want to be a part of making it
- You know you have stories to tell and you’re excited about figuring out how to tell them
- You like the idea of being pleasantly surprised by how your career falls into place
- You don’t want to wait to be a “professional screenwriter” to enjoy your life and find fulfillment
This is not for you if...
- You are looking for a step-by-step process to get an agent or manager
- You are looking for a step-by-step process to get staffed in a writer’s room
- You are committed to some sort of self-imposed deadline for finding success as a screenwriter (“by the time I turn 30/40/I’ll give it one year”)
- You want my help with the nitty gritty of a script (development, structure, scene work)

"Julia is a godsend. I always leave our sessions feeling motivated and reinvigorated. When she helps guide you to a solution that you can 100% achieve (and wonder how you didn't think of it sooner) it's kind of the same feeling you get after taking a hot shower and tucking yourself into fresh-from-the-dryer sheets."

Actress/Writer
"In our session I felt so seen, heard, and in communion with! Honesty and such good listening. Really helped me demystify my goals and start seeing them as reality and plans that would actually happen. Julia is so intuitive at also knowing what would help each person individually put their goals into action."

Writer/Director
"I just had a great session with Julia about the feeling of 're-starting' my career after having a baby. I wrote two new pilots after taking Julia's courses and feel excited about them, yet I came in to this session feeling weirdly scattered about what to do next, and resistant to the idea of sending out my work or networking. Plus I had a narrative that I was 'starting from the ground floor' again even though I've been a filmmaker for years. Coming out of the session I feel far more clarity about what it is I ACTUALLY want, and energized about sending my work out (we made a plan to integrate networking into my routine, and even sent out one text together). I also realized how disempowering and frankly, UNNECESSARY many of my old narratives were, and that I can relate to myself as a creative in a more empowered way. Julia's coaching is a magical drug. I am addicted."

Writer/Director
Julia has a way of pulling things that are inside of you out in a tangible actionable way to make the next steps with your career. This session was like 1000 hours of therapy in one fun sitting with a friend. I came out feeling refreshed and like I had list of things that I'm actually excited to work on! She's truly the best out there and I recommend this to feel empowered and awesome about your career!
Here's what's included...
- 1 Block-Buster Session: we schedule 3 hours, if we don't feel complete we add more time at no cost.
- 6 months of biweekly client-only office hours after your session
You'll walk away with...
- A functional, sustainable, enjoyable writing practice to get a great script written
- A fun, inspiring networking practice to get your great script read
- A healthy, respectful relationship with your creative self
- Strategies to arrange the rest of your life to support your career goals (and enjoy it in the meantime!!)
- Clarity around how to best spend your time and energy in order to meaningfully move your career forward
Who am I?
I’m Julia - I’m a Los Angeles-based screenwriter, writing coach, and postpartum doula/lactation educator. I started my career in entertainment as a development assistant for Modern Family star Ty Burrell’s production company before selling my original multicam pilot YOURS, MINE & PAUL’S to 20th Century Fox Television in a competitive situation; it later sold to ABC with Burrell producing and Sarah Hyland attached to star. My next pilot, MARRIED WITH FRIENDS (also a multicam), sold to CBS in the room; I then went on to adapt the Israeli TV series THE STYLIST into a feature film for Amazon Local Originals. I also developed an original single cam pilot, MORE KIDS THAN PARENTS, with Fanfare Productions, and wrote on the scripted audio series THE GOOD LIFE (Broadway Video and Audible).
During the 2023 writers’ strike, I staved off credit card debt (kind of) by teaching pilot writing classes through the Upright Citizens Brigade Training Center, and discovered that not only could I do, I could also teach :) I am now a sought-after screenwriting coach with an in-depth curriculum for three-act structure in half-hour pilots, and after observing my students’ challenges that could not be addressed by understanding how an effective pilot is structured, I developed tools to help screenwriters to overcome procrastination, writer’s block, and career stagnation. My coaching has been described “a magical drug,” “a godsend,” “perceptive as hell” and “legit brilliant.”
After struggling with my own writing practice after the birth of my son, I became passionate about parental wellness and empowering primary parents to share their creative voices with wide audiences, and created the groundbreaking New Parent Pilot Class, an incubator for parents of young children to create outstanding TV writing samples where their parenthood was seen as an asset, not a liability. This led to my training as a postpartum doula, lactation educator, matrescence educator, and parent coach. I am passionate about improving the wellbeing and general happiness levels of newborns and their parents :)
I have performed improv comedy at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade since 2015 and am now in the rotating cast of the theater’s flagship show ASSSSCAT. Julia has taught improv workshops for screenwriters through the Humanitas Foundation and USC School of Cinematic Arts’ Middle Eastern Media Initiative.
